truck.toon37I found while lurking within the Michigan.gov website (including the Office of  Attorney General) the file that details the amount of revenue collected  as well as how it is dispersed throughout the state from Fuel taxation. Although a lengthy list; any guess as to where the largest disbursement went?  That's a no brainer, Lansing ! From my personal and recent experience the only issues I see in that area would be the rush hour traffic. The roads accessable to trucking are not nearly in the need of repair as compared the rest of the states roads.  As it started many years ago, a truckers saying "To much rubber, not enough concrete" stands true today. With the amount of vehicles, large and small regardless of weight it IS not any easy overnight fix. Better design and better material is the answer instead of pointing the blame on Weather and GVW of trucks. Design a road that can withstand the limits and Build IT.

For those who question the heavy weight laws in Michigan, if you divide the total weight by the actual pressure imposed on the road having multiple axles & tires (pounds per square inch), you would then recognize it is not the Heavy Haul, multi-axle trucks, that cause the damage to the roads. I believe the weather certainly plays a part in the destruction as well as the delivery of salt that's used to clear roads of icy conditions. It's apparent that road crews, even the ones we see cold patching our secondary roads are attempting to make a diffierence, but it's not even a bandage as the problem doesn't heal itself beneath.
